Hermit of Saint Roch

Hermit of Saint Roch

We found the hermitage of San Roque by the royal road, next to the cemetery.
This rectangular chapel features smooth-finished masonry walls with ashlar corner stones. The main entrance stands out for its turned wooden latticework. Currently, the interior houses a statue of Saint Roch, although in the past the statues of Saint Agatha and Saint Lucy were also venerated here. This chapel was built by the survivors following the plague epidemic that ravaged the town in the 16th century, leaving it virtually uninhabited.
